IPL 2021: MS Dhoni sets new record as CSK captain

MS Dhoni, as the IPL team captain 2021of Chennai Super Kings, one of the most successful teams in the IPL, and as a batter, has a point to prove in IPL 2021. When asked by Danny Morrison if last year’s IPL was his final for CSK, Dhoni said, “absolutely not,” implying that his redemption path had begun right there and then.

CSK and MS Dhoni both had their lowest IPL seasons in 2020. CSK fought hard throughout most of the season to avoid finishing last in the points table.

  • Dhoni has a total of 119 wins and 79 losses in 199 IPL matches as the captain of CSK, with one match ending in a no-result.
  • Under Dhoni’s captaincy, CSK has won 60.10 percent of games which is the Maximum test wins as a captain.
  • In the Indian Premier League’s history, Dhoni has the best win percentage (60.10) among captains (minimum of 50 matches as skipper). With a win percentage of 59.52, Rohit Sharma is right behind him. The top five are Sachin Tendulkar (58.82), Shane Warne (55.45), and Gautam Gambhir (55.42).

3. Captain cool MS Dhoni: the game changer

CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has set another milestone in the Indian Premier League. On Thursday, the Chennai Super Kings captain became the first player in the T20 league to reach 100 catches for a team, accomplishing the feat in IPL 2021 match 44 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Sharjah.

In Ravindra Jadeja’s over against SRH, the former India captain completed his 100th catch for CSK by taking a straightforward one to remove Wriddhiman Saha. Only Suresh Raina (98 for CSK) and Kieron Pollard (94 for Mumbai Indians) are in the same league as MS Dhoni in terms of most catches for a club in the IPL.

On Thursday, Captain MS Dhoni collected three catches as he was involved in the dismissals of Jason Roy, Wriddhiman Saha, and Priyam Garg for SRH, who were reduced to 134/7 in Sharjah after Josh Hazlewood and Dwayne Bravo combined for five wickets.

Dhoni is the first man to catch three or more balls in an IPL game ten times as a Winning Record. AB de Villiers is second on the list of people who have done it five times. 

Dhoni may not have lit up the IPL 2021 with his bat, but he has played a key role in Chennai Super Kings’ golden run. Dhoni has demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the best white-ball captains in the world with his field settings, bowling changes, and other strategies.

4. Dhoni’s milestones and records in IPL 2021:

  • MS Dhoni needs two more wicket keeping dismissals to reach 150 in the IPL, making him the first wicketkeeper to do so.
  • He will reach 7000 T20 runs if he makes 179 runs in the upcoming season.
  • He will reach 200 sixes in the IPL 2021 with 14 more sixes for CSK.

Dhoni subsequently seized control of the situation and won the game with two balls to spare. Dhoni called his quick-fire 18-run innings “crucial” after the game.
